This Bruichladdich is the perfect embodiment of this elegant and contrasting style in which a myriad of nuances liven up a sherry that would otherwise be monolithic.
Bowmore 30 Year Old Sea Dragon

Anyone familiar with Bowmore from the 1960s will know this is a special bottling. Though not the most complex, its exoticism, fruit and softness more than make up for any shortfalls. A handful of citrus fruits and a gentle sea breeze bring a touch of refreshment to a whisky that feels like it has arrived straight from the tropics.

Macallan 10 Year Old Cask Strength

Does Macallan really need an introduction? The distillery loved by enthusiasts across the globe and nicknamed the Rolls Royce of malts has, over the last 15 years, more than doubled its production capacities to meet ever-growing demand. I really like this version, which was released right at the start of the 2000s and offers a rare opportunity to taste Macallan at cask strength. All the markers of sherry cask maturation are on hand, with a heady nose that reveals notes of rancio, orange liqueur, musk and leather, all pepped by notes of clove and pine resin. The full-bodied and warm palate confirms the nose with a profusion of orange, dark chocolate and chilli, prune and raisin, all underscored by a well-controlled alcohol. Cask strength at its best...
