The View from the Golden Promise is a chance to see the bottles under the hammer at finespirits.auction in a new light. To give you this fresh perspective, we’ve called on two experts from the Golden Promise Whisky Bar, Clément Gaillard and Salvatore Mannino.
For every new sale, they will share their thoughts on their favourites in the catalogue.
Nestled in the Montorgueil district of Paris, the Golden Promise bar is split into two areas: The first a cocktail bar and the second dedicated to tasting rare whiskies. More than 1,000 bottlings—most of which are almost impossible to find elsewhere—are available in the speakeasy style cellar.

Mosstowie 1976 23 Year Old, 46%, 70 cl
Signatory Vintage for La Maison du Whisky, 2000, Hogshead, Cask No. 12889, 390 bottles
From 1965 to 1981, the Miltonduff distillery was equipped with two Lomond stills used to produce a second, more full-bodied single malt named Mosstowie. This cask bottled by independent bottler Signatory Vintage was selected by La Maison du Whisky. The nose expresses notes of leather and flowers, and the palate is rich and very fruity, revealing a basket of citrus and exotic fruits. NB. Although the 46% ABV could imply otherwise, this is indeed a cask strength bottling.
This discreet Highland distillery is a little less well-known than its peers but will soon be celebrating its 200th birthday, showing that the whisky produced at Glencadam has lots to offer, both as a single malt and as an ingredient in the blends it is used for. This bottling was selected by La Maison du Whisky to celebrate “30 years of passion”, as the label suggests. By choosing such a niche malt, LMDW proved that its raison d’être was (and still is) to guide informed enthusiasts towards new high-quality whiskies. A real cornucopia of ripe fruits (yellow and exotic), the toasted malts and spices (ginger) season the palate. The waxy texture also brings the whisky lots of roundness and length. This truly is a distillery worth discovering.
