New feature! Overtime bidding on auctions

To start 2026, Fine Spirits Auction has added a new feature – overtime bidding, a system that  automatically extends the auction closing time. This will help those who are in a bidding battle as the auction ends to continue bidding after the initial closing time. We’ll explain everything!

This new function will already be in place for the first auction of the year, which takes place from 9 to 30 January, and will replicate the experience that you can find in an auction room, in which auctions continue while there are interested bidders.

When a customer places a bid in the final 3 minutes of the initial closing time of the auction catalogue (the time and date of closing listed on the lot in question), bidding on the lot is automatically extended by 3 minutes. If another bid is placed in the 30 seconds before the new closing time, the closing time is automatically extended again by 30 seconds this time. This 30-second extension can take place up to nine times if new bids keep being placed on the lot. This means that the maximum extension cannot exceed 7 minutes and 30 seconds.

The new function means that your frustration of being outbidded in the final second of the auction shall be no more! You’ll now have extra time to win the bottle of your dreams.

If you’re not free when an auction is closing, there’s no cause for alarm as you can use our Maximum Bid feature. This system allows you to set the amount you are willing to pay for a lot and it will automatically place a bid on the desired lot each time someone outbids you until the set figure is reached.
