Whisky Live 2022 saw Fine Spirits Auction and the GoodPlanet Foundation team up for a special charity auction. For this first special edition, FSA presented some twenty unique lots, kindly donated by key players in the spirits industry. We’d like to take this opportunity to once again thank you all for your generosity and enthusiasm, which helped raise over €128,000 for the GoodPlanet Foundation.
The benefits notably enabled the GoodPlanet Foundation to fund agroforestry projects in France, reforestation projects in Ecuador and a project to restore biodiversity in Senegal. We promised to keep you up to date with these projects, so here is the latest news...
Reforestation and development of an essential oils industry in the Ecuadorian Amazon
This project was part of several ongoing reforestation projects carried out by field partner and NGO Ishpingo in the Napo province of the Ecuadorian Amazon over the last 17 years.
Ishpingo’s work has become vital due to high levels of deforestation resulting from changes in agricultural systems and strong population growth in the region. The project is designed to improve living conditions for the families of farmers, notably by increasing their revenues through:
- Planting Amazonian cinnamon trees in agroforestry systems;
- Developing fair-trade initiatives for processed products associated with the agroforestry systems put in place (essential oils).
In the second year of the project, Fine Spirits Auction donations will help plant and monitor Amazonian cinnamon trees on the land of beneficiary farmers, provide training on sustainable farming for beneficiaries, and reinforce the structure of producer associations. This support will also help develop the essential oils industry by diversifying both oils and their sales circuits.
Support for female entrepreneurship and preservation of biodiversity in the Saloum Delta in Senegal
This project supported by the GoodPlanet Foundation is designed to promote female entrepreneurship as part of the plan to develop a sustainable shellfish industry in Senegal’s Saloum Delta. By gradually replacing wild shellfish gathering with shellfish farming, the project implemented by our field partner ICD Afrique aims to increase the revenues of women and improve their working conditions, while simultaneously conserving the mangrove and shellfish resources.
Fine Spirits Auction donations will contribute to the development of the shellfish-processing industry and apiculture.
The funds will be used to buy material for the construction of a honey factory as well as safety and protection equipment for female beneficiaries, and for repopulation activities in sites where shellfish have been overexploited.
The funding will also enable part of the mangrove to be reforested between July and September 2023, as well as the roll-out of campaigns to raise awareness on preserving the environment in the Saloum Delta throughout the year.
Development of agroforestry and restoration of biodiversity in the Tarn
With the support of Fine Spirits Auction, this project supported by the GoodPlanet Foundation in the Tarn region of France in 2023 aims to restore Occitania’s wild and domestic biodiversity in non-forest habits by involving farmers and citizens in the planting and natural regeneration of varied arboricultural systems.
Activities put in place in 2023 include:
The GoodPlanet Foundation and Fine Spirits Auction are delighted to announce they will be partnering up once again for a one-off auction at Whisky Live Paris 2023.
We look forward to seeing you from 13 October to 3 November later this year! All lots will be on display at Whisky Live at the Grande Halle de la Villette from
