Auction report - September 2023 Auction

What a great turnout we had from all over the world for the 20th edition of Fine Spirits Auction! The result was a lively auction with more than five bids per lot on average, raising opening prices by roughly 27.7%.

Chartreuse was once again among the most sought-after lots with an average ten bids per lot. These included the three bottles of La Fabiola Tarragona Yellow (1966-1971), all of which went for above their high estimate of €1,370. But Chartreuse wasn’t the only French spirit to do well at this edition. The annual releases from Hennessy and various rhum agricoles also greatly exceeded expectations.

J.M. 1987, for example, doubled its high estimate with a hammer price of €1,072.

When it comes to Velier, passions still haven’t waned and Caroni, Single Bottle Tiger Shark and Hampden all fetched over 70% of their high estimate.

This auction also stood out for the selection of Scottish sherry bombs under the hammer, including several from independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail. These vestiges of a bygone era attracted some excellent bids and generally fetched over 95% of their high estimates.

Strathisla 1955 Private Cask Gordon & MacPhail: €3,397.

As always, please feel free to submit your bottles for the next edition of Fine Spirits Auction, which will be held from 13 October to 3 November.

For Whisky Live Paris 2023, we are delighted to be launching the second edition of our charity auction to raise money for the GoodPlanet Foundation.
